Connect an AI agent to HelloDM

HelloDM runs an MCP server — the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI tools use to work with other apps. Connect it once and Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or any other MCP client can set up and manage your Instagram DM automations in conversation, without you clicking through the dashboard. Available on every plan, including Free.

The address

That is all a tool needs. When you add it, the tool sends you to HelloDM to sign in, and you tick what it may do: view only, create and edit automations, delete them, see DM threads, change the follow gate. There is no key to paste. Connected agents in your dashboard lists every agent, lets you change its permissions, and disconnects it in one click.

Claude

  • claude.ai, Claude Desktop, mobile and Cowork: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste the address → Connect.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http hellodm https://www.hellodm.io/api/mcp, then /mcp and pick hellodm to sign in.

ChatGPT

  • Settings → Connectors → Advanced → turn on Developer mode.
  • Create → paste the address, choose OAuth for authentication → Create. Sign in to HelloDM when asked.
  • Developer mode is available on paid ChatGPT plans; on Business and Enterprise an admin may need to allow it.

Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code and others

Add a remote (HTTP / Streamable HTTP) MCP server with the address above. Clients that support OAuth sign you in through the browser; clients that only support headers can send an Enterprise API key as Authorization: Bearer hdm_live_….

What a connected agent can do

  • Check your plan and standing: DMs used this month and when the allowance resets, and whether a used-up Free allowance, a pending payment or an expired plan is holding automations. The agent is refused, with the reason, when it tries to create or resume a rule in that state.
  • See your connected Instagram accounts, recent posts and reels, and live stories.
  • Create automations for comments, shares, DM keywords, story replies and Live comments; edit, pause, resume and delete them.
  • Read results: DMs sent, followers gained, each rule’s event history, and DM thread summaries (not message bodies).
  • Change the Grow Followers gate.

It acts as your account and is held to the same rules: no links in an opening DM, 640 characters, no overlapping rules, Meta’s send pacing. A rule the agent writes that HelloDM would refuse from you is refused from the agent too, with the reason, so the agent can fix it. It cannot change your plan, billing or sign-in.

Security

  • Connections use OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. HelloDM stores only hashes of every token; access tokens last an hour and refresh tokens rotate.
  • Each tool is approved by you, by name, on HelloDM’s own consent screen, with only the permissions you tick. Disconnecting it under Connected agents revokes it immediately.
  • Agents go through the same permission checks as the dashboard — row-level security in the database, not a privileged back door.
