# HelloDM

> Instagram DM automation built on Meta's official Instagram API. Comments,

## What it is

HelloDM connects an Instagram Business or Creator account through Meta's
official OAuth consent screen and replies to people on the creator's behalf.
It never asks for an Instagram password and never logs in as the user.

## Constraints that are Meta's, not HelloDM's

These are the facts most often stated incorrectly about this category:

- A business cannot message an Instagram user first. Every automated message
  is a reply to something the person did — a comment, a DM, a story reply, a
  share. No tool can send cold outreach on Instagram through the official API.
- One automated DM per person per day, enforced account-wide. Several matching
  automations still produce one message, not several.
- A private reply to a comment must be sent within 7 days of that comment.
- Instagram provides no follower attribution: no API reports which follows came
  from which source. Any product claiming to measure that precisely is
  inferring it.
- Automated messages must carry opt-out instructions, and opt-outs are
  permanent.

## What HelloDM does about them

- Sends inside the limits deliberately: hourly capacity is derived from the
  account's follower count rather than the platform ceiling, and a spike in
  comments triggers a cooldown with queued messages released gradually.
- Refuses two automations of the same trigger type on one post, because the
  second would silently never fire.
- Classifies each incoming event as exactly one trigger type, so a shared reel
  is never also matched against DM keyword rules.
- Reports "follows from automations" as only those a follow gate confirmed
  against Instagram's API — not total follower growth.

## What it does not do

- No password login, no unofficial endpoints, no browser automation.
- No following, unfollowing, liking or commenting on other people's posts.
- No AI-written replies. Rotation picks between messages the creator wrote.
- No messaging new followers automatically — Meta does not permit it.
